BIF-3 is going to be totally badass
By JackTemplin
Every fall, the Rhode Island-based Business Innovation Factory (BIF) hosts one of the conference circuit's rare gems - the BIF Collaborative Innovation Summit. This year's third installment, fittingly dubbed BIF-3, is scheduled to convene October 10th & 11th at Trinity Rep in Downtown Providence.
Having attended BIF-2 last year, I can attest that the conference's "storytelling" format, intimate & historic setting, and button-down attitude combine to create a uniquely collegial and valuable experience.
Warwick native and Wall Street Journal technology columnist Walt Mossberg will co-host this year's Summit with Fast Company Co-Founder Bill Taylor. The incredible lineup of storytellers includes a small who's who of info-tech & digital media luminaries. They include:
- Jason Fried, CEO & co-founder of 37signals
- Clayton Christenson, Harvard Professor and author of the instant classic The Innovator's Dilemma
- Richard Saul Wurman, information architecture pioneer & founder of the TED Conference
- Mark Cuban Dancing with the Stars contestant (oh, and reportedly, he's also the billionaire serial entrepreneur and owner of the Dallas Mavericks)
- Steven Johnson, bestselling digital culture author and co-creator of Outside.in
- Irving Wladawsky-Berger, IBM's VP of Technical Strategy & Innovation
- Stephen Lane, CEO & Co-Founder of Providence-based Item New Product Development
- Matt Cottam, Cofounder & Principal of Providence-based Tellart
And those are just a few of BIF-3's storytellers (it's not even all of the info-tech & digital media related ones!). Check out the full list.
Amazingly, there are still a few tickets left. If interested, contact Melissa Withers at mwithers [at] businessinnovationfactory [dot] com
UPDATE: Event is sold out
I think I may be starstruck. I should get that checked.

The list of storytellers and hosts reads like a who's who in the world of innovation. What's even cooler is that these storytellers are coming here to participate in a truly unique discussion about collaborative innovation (and lessons learned).
What better than Rhode Island to have this discussion? We are uniquely positioned (and therefore gathering more national attention) because of our ability to recognize our size and use it to our collective advantage; between our academic, entrepreneurial and public sector networks, access to potential collaborators exist at an increased rate here. It's easy to connect with people here. I have found it to be a "one degree" of separation type of environment where no one is ever more than one call or email away. If you need/desire to find partners, collaborators, soundingboards, and support for new, innovative ideas you may have than this is the place to be.
For those that are considering going to the Summit, you will find it time well spent; listening to engaging tales of innovation from the "best of the best" while at the same time being able to network with a group of leaders from virtually every sector, with whom you may be able to forge new collaborations. It's a great program that has an equally great group of attendees and speakers. Business, community and government leaders from around the country will be on hand as participants. Take advantage of this Rhode Island jewel of an event!
Hope you can make it!
