The AUV (Autonomous Undersea Vehicles) Fest is being co-sponsored by NOAA and the Office of Naval Research, and will feature a variety of autonomous vehicle technologies. Newport was selected because Narragansett Bay offers a realistic environment to evaluate the performance of potential littoral mine countermeasure systems, while at the same time being an ideal location to explore the seabed for historical shipwrecks.
