The use of web 2.0 technology - also called 'social media' - is transforming commerce, politics and society. But many people still have questions:

  • what exactly does 'web 2.0' mean?
  • where did this phenomenon come from?
  • why does this matter to me and my organization or business?
  • how do I move forward?

Blogs, Wikipedia, Facebook, Twitter, Second Life and even eBay are all part of the same wave of innovation that lets individuals cluster around topics of interest - no matter where in the world they are. These clusters often generate better information faster than corporate sources or the mainstream media.

As a result, corporate and organizational interests must play catch-up with an evolving phenomenon that is, frankly, very foreign to their culture. Some have adapted well. Others, not so much. Why?

This workshop demystifies both the technology and the phenomenon with simple explanations in down-to-earth language. Then small and large group discussions help you work through the issues and internalize what you've learned.

No special knowledge is necessary. This workshop serves as the prerequisite to later hands-on sessions in the New Horizons computer lab.
