Founded in 1863 as Bryant and Stratton National Business College, Bryant University offered primarily business degrees. In August 2004, Bryant College officially became Bryant University with expanded liberal arts offerings and two colleges, the College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences.
Bryant now enrolls 3,200 part and full-time undergraduate students and 550 graduate students, as well as employing 241 part and full-time professors. The great majority of students are enrolled in the College of Business.
Students can choose from Undergraduate degree programs including:

- Computer Information Systems
- Information Technology
- and International Business with a concentration in Computer Information Systems
Students can also choose interest areas or minors including:

- Media Production/Broadcast Media

The Center for Design and Business was established jointly by Bryant University and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
Bryant has been committed to staying on the "cutting edge" of technology, earning it a place on the Princeton Review's 2006 25 Most Connected Campuses. Initiatives at Bryant include:
- 802.11g wireless coverage of the entire campus
- VoIP phones in all dorm rooms
- the George E. Bello Center for Information Technology, opened in 2002
- the Student Laptop Program, launched in 2002, provides IBM laptops to all students every two years
Bryant's U.S.-China Institute, established in 2005, figures greatly in efforts to grow an international reputation in business.
The Executive Development Center at Bryant University provides business and professional development.
