The state's public university
The University of Rhode Island, chartered in 1888 as the state's agricultural school, is the only public university in Rhode Island featuring major research initiatives. URI enrolls nearly 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
In addition to housing students on the Feinstein Providence Campus, URI has three additional campuses: Kingston, Narragansett Bay, and W. Alton Jones campuses.
Students at URI can choose from amongst over 80 majors, including Computer Science and Statistics and Electrical & Computer Engineering.

The URI Web Development Group (WDG) is an Information and Instructional Technology Service (IITS) fee-based unit...We are a Web design and creation service for the URI campus and the State of Rhode Island.
The Narragansett Bay campus is home to URI's Graduate School of Oceanography, one of the top five oceanic institutions in the country. The School often works collaboratively with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport.
The Inner Space Center was created by Dr. Ballard at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography to enable students and researchers of the Institute for Archaeological Oceanography to monitor, track and disseminate information about oceanography and archaeology in real time...
...The Center includes workstations linked to the Internet to provide students, faculty and researchers with "live" access to archaeological oceanographic expeditions on a 24-hour basis.
Every summer since 1998, URI's Computer Science Department has run a Summer Computer Camp for students from 9-17.
Students at URI recently founded an entrepreneurship club to encourage student entrepreneurship and connect students and business leaders.
