Providence is one of two cities (Seattle being the other) chosen to host this cool, quirky competition
I will definitely be checking it out

I had been planning to attend for quite a while but I purposely avoided learning anything about the event so I would be able to enjoy maximum surprise. I was very happy to learn this was a national event. Teams were from Providence (of course), New England, Canada, the mid-west, and lots of other places. I think team who traveled farthest came from Los Angeles.
There were something like 57 teams and I'm happy to say that the winning team was "The Good the Bad and the Nerdy" They ran the Numerator 2.0 (a rolling calculator) at a max speed of 42 miles per hour and were by far the fastest team. They also had a great skit and never broke character. They were from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
Team score = vehicle creativity + launch skit performance + time to finish the course
I would love to see the event come back in future years.
By the way; the parachutists were very cool but crazy. They greatly accelerated thier rate of descent to do high speed maneuvers between RISDI buildings, smoke stacks and trees before landing at the intersection of Waterman and N. Main
