Are the TAGS censored not to include DOTNETNUKE and ASP.NET?

When I look at "All Tags" for "Individuals by tags"  (http://rinexus.com/tagadelic/chunk/5) there seem to be quite a few items missing.  Most of the stuff seems to be centered around Personal Home Page (PHP).

I noticed that a couple of guys seemed to get around the ASP.NET censor by recording his interest as "php. asp.net".  Whatever it takes, I guess.

Hi Richard, I think what you're experiencing is a rule whereby the tag cloud will only display tags that are used by more than one users. Likewise, on user profiles, it only links those tags that are used by more than one user. Thanks for raising this - at minimum we should (and will) add some text explaining.

DOTNETNUKE shows at least two users, as do other tags that I have.

Here's the rundown of my tags:

NET, access control, ASP, assembler, delphi, dotnetnuke, embedded systems, manila

Access control and embedded systems are possibly unique to this site, but as they are at the height of information technology (forgive my blush), it certainly seems silly not to listthem.  The lack of delphi is a surprise, though.

However, assembler, dotnetnuke, and manila have at least the cited two usages, and do not appear in the tag cloud.   I did find other categories with two usages that do appear, e.g. system architecture.

Also, the tagadelic software that creates the tag clouds apparently provides the capability to Include and Exclude categories from the cloud, so naturally it appears that DOTNETNUKE et. al. have been specifically excluded.

Hmm, now that I look at the tags, I notice that the ONLY content management systems that appear are django and drupal, both of which oddly enough appear in JackTemplin's profile.  Sure smells like censorship to me.

Hi Richard, I assure you that we're not censoring tags - it's just that specific tags aren't linked or added to the cloud unless there are at least 2 people using the exact tag. So for example I just added Delphi to my Interests, and now it's linked as there are two of us using that tag - you and I. Also, we don't define the tags, the users do - when you entered Delphi (the first person to do so) you created that new tag. I agree we need to make the tags' functionality more clear, and we will do so. Thanks, Jack

Nope, DOTNETNUKE is still censored out.

I am referring to the box on the left of my profile at

http://rinexus.com/user/535/richard

when you click All Tags, that brings you to this page:

http://rinexus.com/tagadelic/chunk/5

DOTNETNUKE is not there, nor is Delphi that you just added and that now has two users.

Like I said before, on the All Tags page at http://rinexus.com/tagadelic/chunk/5 the only content management systems that appear are django and drupal, which are the ones that are listed on JackTemplin's profile.

There are LOADS of content management systems out there (over 700, gasp, on www.cmsmatrix.org), so obviously the above named cms's are not the only game in town.

Richard,

There's no way what you're describing is intentional censorship, it's clearly a bug of some sort.

This site is new, and many things are still be shaken out. The tags feature here has always been slightly confusing to me, but it's a small team working on this site, and they are building new features while fixing bugs. They'll look into it, and I'm sure they'll get it fixed.

Thanks, Brian. Okay, we figured out what it was - the full cloud was only set to show the 100 most popular tags at a time, which means that a tag had to be associated with at least 3 users to show up. Andy has re-configured it (a surprisingly tricky task) - The new rule depends on an explicit use count. It shows all terms with two or more uses, and doubles the maximum number to 200.  Sorry All for the confusion, and thanks for your patience as we improve these features. --Jack
