NBC News' Brian Williams Premieres 'BriTunes' With Deer TickNBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams is really going out of his way to show he's an indie rock fan. First, he told Spinner he digs Cat Power, and now, to prove his hipster cred, he's started BriTunes, a music interview series on his NBC Web site.

Rhode Island's Deer Tick received the honor of being the first band interviewed by Williams at the 30 Rock studios in Manhattan. "I don't think I'd showered for four days," singer John Joseph McCauley III told Spinner, sounding like he hadn't adjusted to life a vacation in the Virginia mountains with his girlfriend and their moms for Mother's Day. "It was weird going to an interview in a room with water bottles and pretzels."

But, of course, Deer Tick are grateful for the exposure. "I think it's good for anybody that wants a little extra attention, and this is what we want to do for the rest of our lives," McCauley says. "We're trying to do big things."

And if the 50-year-old Williams is a fan, big things are sure to come. Deer Tick's second album, 'Born on Flag Day,' is out on June 23 and the band is about to embark on a seven-week tour, opening some dates for Jenny Lewis. Lest you think the shows will be full of the typical indie crowd, McCauley swears the band appeals to all kinds of people. "We have a lot of fans that aren't twentysomething hipsters," he said.

Sounds like the Brian Williams set truly isn't out of place in the world of indie rock.
