Job Description

DiJiPOP is seeking a highly motivated web application developer intern to assist our world class team in improving our online, auction-based advertising platform.  Our platform connects manufacturer marketing budgets to strategic product placements on their retailers’ web sites resulting in increased sales for both retailers and manufacturers while tracking campaign effectiveness for manufacturers and creating new revenue opportunities for retailers. 

The intern we seek will want to gain experience and knowledge in coding, testing, and supporting of cross-platform, Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) and high-volume web services, such as ad servers, that are highly available and scalable.  The ideal candidate will have 1 to 2 years experience with Java and / or Adobe Flex programming; will be able to understand and write basic SQL statements; and will possess general web development experience.   The candidate must be currently enrolled in a school seeking a degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline.

This intern web application developer role requires a proactive, quality driven, team-oriented individual who thrives in an agile, dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.  This role is based in our Providence office.

The intern developer will report to the CTO and will be responsible for specific software delivery and quality targets.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will depend upon candidate’s experience and project priorities.  Responsibilities may include:

• Develop and execute functional test plans test for client applications and platform APIs to validate multiple browser and cross-platform support.
• Proactively identifies system deficiencies and recommends appropriate solutions.
• Fix bugs and implement new features in Flex client applications.
• Fix bugs and implement new features in server-side Java components within a Spring framework to provide client application service APIs and ad server functionality.
• Develop SQL for MySQL database to implement new platform functionality.
• Develop and execute performance, load, stress, and availability tests.
• Assist in performance tuning of core web, application and database subsystems.
• Develop visually appealing ad templates using HTML / CSS / JavaScript
• Write appropriate design, implementation and test documentation
• Other duties as necessary.

Requirements

• Understands common web design patterns and their relative merits.
• Has a solid foundation in object oriented analysis and design techniques.
• Has demonstrated programming experience using either Java or Flex
• Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS and XML
• Ability to work in Linux environment. 
• Fosters a collaborative environment that leverages the strength our on-shore and off-shore teams.
• Proactively embraces the opportunity to learn new technologies and skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Self-motivated, results orientated and thorough
• Familiarity with at least one relational database management system, preferably MySQL.
• Must be student currently enrolled in a school seeking a degree in computer science, information technology, or related discipline.

The following skills are not required, but would be a plus:

• Understands user interface best practices for information management and user experience.
• Understands browser specific compatibility issues.
• Linux scripting
• Web Server and Servlet Engine configuration

        - Server Virtualization
        - High Availability and Scalable Design
        - Performance Tuning and Optimization
