Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is seeking a Media Relations Specialist to join its Media + Partners Division. Under the new leadership of President John Maeda, RISD will seek to broaden the impact that art and design can have on creative commerce and the economy, and deepen the positive contribution that an art and design degree can have on one graduate’s life. The Media + Partners Division seeks to create compelling external communications and relationships to strengthen RISD’s reputation in the broader community. Within this, the Department of Media Relations leads and implements media relations strategies through varied institutional activities and initiatives that support RISD’s strategic goals.

The Media Relations Specialist is responsible for designing, packaging and implementing media relations strategies to gain publicity and exposure for the college within the context of RISD’s institutional goals. The successful candidate will monitor, measure and report the results of media relations activity against desired goals and create strategies to determine effectiveness. In addition, the Media Relations Specialist will manage and maintain the master media database and ensure contacts and publications are current, accurate, and effective.

A Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, English or related area and /or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of two to four years previous communication/journalism experience. Ability to track, monitor and measure media results/activity; prepare reports; maintain systems and tools; identify and analyze trends; and influence desired outcomes. Demonstrated ability to build and foster positive relationships with multiple, diverse populations and to research, identify, and package stories in a manner that is appealing and interesting to audiences. Strong oral and written communication, organizational, and computer skills, with a general understanding of and a strong interest in social media tools. Knowledge of art, design, art history, higher education is preferred.
