Tellart is looking for an experienced software engineer with a focus on front-end browser technologies to join us in our main office in Providence, RI, or in our R&D office in San Francisco, CA. The candidate’s expertise and experience should give them the ability to respond to challenges with creative and efficient solutions. For example, when presented with the problem of doing real-time digital signal processing for a Web app, the ideal candidate’s first instinct would be to see if JavaScript is up to the job--while the rest of us are distracted by Flash. This is a contract opportunity, but full-time applicants will also be considered.

The contract need is immediate, starting in May 2011.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work with the other designers and engineers to build Web app user interfaces
• Follow guidance on overall system architecture, and make day-to-day software design decisions that support the overall architecture
• Respond to and implement a continuous stream of visual and UX design changes, communicated in various forms from the rest of the team; work collaboratively to balance UX design goals and high software performance
• Meticulously track changes and flaws/resolutions to the code you have written; keep up ongoing communication about this with the rest of the team

Skill Requirements

• Significant experience writing JavaScript for browser-based Web apps
• Expert understanding of modern CSS3/HTML5 standards; and implementation differences between browsers
• Expert code commenting skills and preference for object-oriented design
• Proactive consideration of the security constraints of the Web browser

Additional Preferred Skills

• Experience with a current cross-browser UI framework like JQuery, MooTools, GWT
• Experience with JSP, PHP or Ruby
• Experience with JavaScript optimization and profiling
• Passion for finding the right answer with other people
• Familiarity with physical computing hardware and software
• Familiarity with user experience design practices
