Verizon’s FiOS TV in 12 more RI towns

Service will be available in 29% of households within a few weeks, continue to expand over the year

Final approval for FiOS TV service in state Service Areas 2, 3 and 8 – Charlestown, Cranston, Foster, Hopkinton, Johnston, Narragansett, North Providence, Providence, Richmond, Scituate, South Kingstown and Westerly – was granted Thursday by the R.I. Division of Public Utilities and Carriers. The DPUC was acting on an application filed by Verizon on March 8....

...The company notes that it is the first to offer a widespread fiber-to-premises network, connecting homes and businesses directly to a large-scale fiber-optic network. Besides FiOS TV, the network also allows Verizon to offer telephone and high-speed FiOS Internet service.
