U.S. Navy honors NUWC researchers

The Navy recently honored both a scientist and a team of engineers for their work at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) division located at Naval Station Newport.

Dr. Thomas Wettergren, who has been a scientist at NUWC for 13 years, was named the 2008 Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Scientist of the Year.

Wettergren, a North Kingstown resident, was honored for his work on applied mathematics, which the Navy said included major breakthroughs in search path planning which will increase the effectiveness of unmanned vehicles.
