Business plan contest scales back prizes

The Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, citing “changes in the general business environment,” has pared its estimate of prizes available to 2009 contestants, who have until April 6 to submit their completed applications.

This year’s contest “will award approximately $125,000” in cash and services, they said. That is one-sixth less than the $150,000 they had predicted in September (READ MORE) and 38 percent less than the $170,000 in “prize winnings” distributed in 2008, when the contest added a high-school track.
