New robot at Brown heeds hand signals

Brown University researchers have developed a system that lets robots follow you better than some dogs follow their masters.

A group led by Chad Jenkins, an assistant professor of computer science, came up with a way for robots to respond to hand signals and travel three feet behind a particular person, without being confused by other people walking. It essentially sees a person’s silhouette.
