Students are corps of news Web site

Whalen, a senior, is one of about 150 college students across the country who have signed on to be part of Scoop44.com, a Web site that covers the Obama administration and other issues of national interest.

The brainchild of Alexander Heffner, a 19-year-old Harvard University freshman, it gets its numeral from Mr. Obama’s status as the 44th president.

Originally launched in 2007 as Scoop08 (when Heffner was a student at Phillips Academy Andover), it initially intended to offer youth-based coverage of the presidential election. After a brief hiatus, it was reincarnated as Scoop44 and returned to the Internet in February.
