Hasbro inks TV deal with Discovery

Hasbro Inc. has signed a deal with Discovery Communications to buy 50 percent of the TV network and Web site Discovery Kids, with plans to rebrand it in the U.S. next year using programming based on Hasbro toys and games, the two companies announced today.

Hasbro (NYSE: HAS) will pay $300 million to Discovery (NSDQ: DISCA) to buy a 50 percent stake in the channel’s operations, which will be a joint venture between the two companies that targets children ages 14 and under. The joint venture will also get a minority stake in the Hasbro.com Web site.
