APC layoffs tied to server sales

American Power Conversion needed to eliminate 75 jobs in Rhode Island because of a decline in a related business, the company’s president and chief executive officer said Thursday.

Laurent Vernerey told more than 400 attendees at Bryant University’s 24th annual World Trade Day that the sale of server computers declined by about 15 percent, and that APC has found server sales figures to be a good predictor of its future business.

“Our industry is directly linked to the server business,” he said.
