KVH gets $2.5M fiber-optic gyro order

Mobile communications firm KVH Industries Inc. has received a new $2.5 million order for its precision fiber-optic gyros from an unidentified major defense contractor.

Middletown-based KVH (Nasdaq:KVHI) said the fiber-optic gyros, which which use beams of light to measure the movement of an object, will be used in remote stabilized weapon stations. Those take gunners out of the line of fire by allowing them to operate, aim and fire their weapons from inside their vehicles.
