Astro-Med Inc., based in West Warwick, said the Food and Drug Administration has approved one of its subsidiaries’ products used for electrical stimulation of the brain’s cortex. The subsidiary, Grass technologies, plans to sell the product in conjunction with its long-term epilepsy-monitoring systems. Typically, long-term epilepsy monitoring is conducted in large hospitals affiliated with major universities, Astro-Med said. Alfredo Bustamante, product manager, said, “The advanced products allow the latest technology to assist in crucial brain resection procedures.” Astro-Med (A LOT:NASDAQ) manufactures specialty high-tech printing systems, electronic medical instrumentation, and test and measurement instruments.
