Movie review: ‘Wah Do Dem’ an engaging first film by 2 Providence filmmakers

Two months ago filmmakers Ben Chace and Sam Fleischner, who have been friends since they were kindergartners on Providence’s East Side, won the $50,000 Target Filmmaker Award at the 15th Los Angeles Film Festival for their Jamaican-made feature debut, Wah Do Dem.

Friday night at 8 the 26-year-old co-writers/co-directors will show it for free in downtown Providence as part of Tazza Café’s movie series presented on the outdoor screen opposite the cafe at the corner of Westminster and Union streets. The film’s star, Sean Bones, whose recently released album Rings was inspired by the reggae music he encountered in Jamaica, will perform following the movie.
