...As it happens, the Great Recession of 2009 is also the focus of “Pixilerations,” a festival-within-the festival that focuses on cutting-edge films, videos and digital art. Organized in conjunction with Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, this year’s version — dubbed “Pixilerations [v. 6]: The Great Disruption” — kicks off Thursday with simultaneous openings (both 6 to 8 p.m.) at the Sol Koffler Gallery in downtown and the 5 Traverse Gallery in Fox Point.

“Pixilerations” program director Maya Allison says the two shows will present a wide range of work — from student-made pieces to works by well-known artists and performers.
