Full Story: Founder of Shape Up RI wins national award Source: Projo News Blog, October 8th, 2009 Author: Felice Freyer Added on October 9th, 2009 at 9:50 am, by Matt MikulaRajiv Kumar, the Brown medical student who founded Shape Up RI, has received a Community Health Leaders Award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation -- 1 of 10 people around the country chosen for the honor.
Shape Up RI is a program that encourages people to increase physical activity and lose weight by forming teams that compete over an 8- or 12-week period on the basis of how many steps walked, pounds lost or exercise hours logged. Over the past four years, 35,000 Rhode Islanders have participated in Shape Up RI.
