Entrepreneurship in Rhode Island

In September this year, Forbes magazine released a survey on the business environment of 50 US states. Measures including business costs, regulatory environment, and growth prospects were measured, and the results tallied. Guess where Rhode Island pulled in? Dead last.

Though this may not be surprising to many, it is sad. After all, wasn’t Rhode Island the birthplace of America’s industrial revolution? In the age of horse-powered factories, Samuel Slater used the Blackstone River in Pawtucket to power his cotton mill. So what has happened to this innovative spirit needed to address problems and better society? How have we come to languish in last place? Can there be a revival of our entrepreneurial spirit?
