The R.I. Economic Development Corporation (EDC) wants to create an ombudsman position so small-business owners would have an advocate to turn to for assistance with such matters as the enforcement of regulations.

Identical bills in the House and Senate (H6318 and S0290) cleared committees earlier this year and were scheduled for separate floor votes during last week’s two-day General Assembly session. The proposal for an ombudsman would amend existing law on small-business regulatory fairness. Lawmakers were expected to give their approval, EDC officials said.
