Angus Davis: Repeal R.I.’s ban on Internet advertising businesses

Elected officials recently toured Providence’s “Knowledge District,” which The New York Times profiled as a growth opportunity for high-tech business. I spent over a decade in Silicon Valley building Internet companies, creating hundreds of high-paying jobs.
I’d love to do this in Rhode Island, but we have a fatal flaw that blocks Internet companies like those I know how to build from operating here.
The good news: This fatal flaw will cost the state nothing to fix.
Last year, Rhode Island passed the “Amazon tax.” It was described as a way to level the playing field between online retailers like Amazon.com that don’t collect sales tax, and traditional retailers like Borders that do.
