New R.I. economic-development director determined to make a difference

In her first broad-ranging, sit-down interview, the newly appointed director (pronounced ee-o-WANN-ah mor-FESS-iss) offered her take on a host of economic-development issues and a glimpse of the leadership style she will offer if her candidacy is approved by the state Senate.

When search committee head and Hasbro chairman Alfred J. Verrecchia called Morfessis “a big personality,” he captured a lot about her. She has an animated, even folksy style that’s unusual for a business leader. Her hands are rarely still as she speaks of teamwork and cooperation, which she does often.
