R.I. EDC nominee plans to focus on existing businesses

As he enters his final year in office, Governor Carcieri, and his new economic development director, Keith Stokes, say they will take a hyper-local approach to economic development, focusing on helping businesses that are already here, instead of luring new ones.

“Before you can swing for the fences, you have to make sure everyone here is happy. The best salespeople you have are people who are already in Rhode Island doing business,” Carcieri said. “So you concentrate on what you have.”
