Rhode Islanders who care about jobs, taxes and the future of the state should pay attention this week to two events.

Governor Carcieri on Tuesday will give his State of the State address that recaps the first seven years of his administration and lays out a plan for his last year in office.

On Thursday, Keith Stokes will give his first speech to a big, business crowd since Carcieri named him executive director of the Economic Development Corporation.

Carcieri’s address will get more attention. But Stokes’ presentation at a Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce breakfast — and what he does for Rhode Island’s economy — may be more important in the long-term.
