Carcieri nominates 12 to new EDC board

Gov. Donald L. Carcieri on Tuesday nominated 12 new members to the R.I. Economic Development Corporation’s board of directors, which lawmakers last year expanded from nine members to 13.

The group of business and civic leaders include Hasbro Inc. Chairman Alfred J. Verrecchia, who led a panel that reviewed the EDC last year and found its operations ineffective, and University of Rhode Island President David M. Dooley, who was nominated to the new seat created to represent higher education.

The 10 men and two women were nominated to staggered terms, with three each serving for one, two, three or four years. The Senate must confirm the appointments. The governor will continue to serve as the board’s chair and 13th member.
