The Rhode Island Quality Institute is a pioneer in health IT

The Rhode Island Quality Institute won a $15.9-million grant, bringing to almost $28 million the federal money it has been awarded this year from the economic stimulus package.

Laura Adams, president and chief executive officer of the nonprofit group, said in a telephone interview that the money has helped her to roughly double her budget and nearly triple her staff since last year to promote statewide adoption of medical record-keeping over the next few years. She said the new grant may add another 8 or 10 jobs, some to the institute and some to outside contractors to help spread the technology.
