Brain power and solid entrepreneurship is likely key to climbing out of Rhode Island’s deep recession

The state’s jobless rate, the highest in the region at 12.6 percent, the continuing problem of home foreclosures and business bankruptcies and the inability of state legislators to resolve tax and spending crises have pushed back the recovery already taking hold in other parts of New England.

Yet, despite those worries, and the state’s oppressive tax and business climate tamping down economic hope, there are still signs of life.

I’ve seen them sprouting among the entrepreneurs who are trying to start and grow businesses here. They should be encouraged because the small business owners and their energy and ideas offer a way out of Rhode Island’s morass.
