When about 35 companies specializing in undersea technology gathered at the Newport Yachting Center last week for the OceanTech Expo, fewer than a handful called Rhode Island home. But the R.I. Economic Development Corporation, which backed the expo with $10,000 in cash, said the three-day event was part of a larger effort to attract ocean technology companies to what is, after all, the Ocean State.
