After following a sailboat south to Rhode Island in 1985 I realized how landlocked I had become. Graduate studies had taken me to Cambridge Massachusetts in the late 60’s. Work and more graduate studies then took me further inland until a neighbor sold me a boat that was in RI. How stochastic was that? I thought the boat was coming north but things changed.

Though I enjoyed my colleagues in MA and New Hampshire as well as the north country snows and teaching group theory at Antioch New England, the sloop Robert Story called me to the Sakonnet Passage. Then it called my soon to be spouse. We moved to the bay in 1990. 

So here am I. Between sails and on the off season I am privileged to provide personal consultation, couples counseling, and group therapy to a wide range of clients at Group by Design, LLP on the East Side of Providence.

I also periodically fight an uphill battle against disincentives to group therapy in RI. A nasty little code, #90853 in the Current Procedural Terminology, is costing RI plenty. One of my idiosyncratic interests is to get it overridden or fixed. 

New recruits are welcome to the cause and the hill might be getting a little smaller. The Wall Street Journal has recently begun to think group so perhaps the Providence Business News will be next. 

The voyager probe is another interest. Like the words above it is launched into outer space with a message that someone just might bump into and ask, “What is that”?
