About Me
As UX Designer, Adam provides user interface and user experience support for BatchBlue. An open-standards, open-source, and open-communication advocate, he strives to produce software that stays out of the way and allows users to simply get things done. Prior to joining BatchBlue, Adam spent seven years with Aptima, Inc. and Mazer Digital Media where he developed user interfaces for end users ranging from Air Force observers monitoring training missions to grade school students struggling with fractions. Adam has been creating web sites and applications since he brought his band online with a gaudy Angelfire site in 1996. Adam and his wife Erin live in Massachusetts with their daughter Ella, newborn son Nolan, and cat Abby. When he’s not pushing Ella on the swings, blowing bubbles, or dancing Nolan to sleep, Adam spends his free time blogging or running his baseball simulation league.

Hi all:
I'm headed to the Next Gen Work Environments meeting on Thursday and saw that as a great chance to catch my first Web Developer Lunch Meetup (been meaning to get to one for quite some time). One ends at 10:30, the other starts at 12. Anyone else planning to hit both? Anyone been to one of the lunches before?

I've been looking for twitter feeds of Providence-area folks. Got one? I'm @adarowski.
Let's help the team by making a list of where we want RSS updates (and also what we would like to populate an "email digest" for the non-RSSy folks).
- Latest forum posts (new topics as well as replies)
- Latest News items
- Latest calendar items
- New members
- New companies in directory
Missing anything? Calendar items might be better served in an ICAL feed, which I believe is coming, too.
I love reading top ten (or so) blog lists that people read. Gives me an idea of what's out there as I struggle to keep up with reading my own feeds. So, care to give a top 10 (or so)?
Trying to get a feel for what types of developers there are out there in RI... web? desktop application? web application? How 'bout mobile? Anything I'm missing?
For me, it's been web development for a long time with a recent shift in focus to web applications.
Currently using Ruby on Rails for our app—but I'm a total Rails noob. I'm mostly a markup/CSS guy that likes to try to decipher the Rails code in his spare time.
Hi all... wanted to see who in the area has an interest in coworking.
http://coworking.pbwiki.com/#W...
The short version: Shared spaces that independent workers (or virtual employees) can rent/use in lieu of getting traditional office space or being stuck at home.
Why am I interested? I work for BatchBlue, a six-person virtual company based in Barrington. I LOVE that we're virtual. I love working from home and meeting at the other team members' houses. But sometimes you need an office space for something—an extended client meeting, a hardcore laser printer, a copy machine (sure not gonna have one of those laying around the house), a conference room table, whiteboards, etc.
A coworking space allows those that pitch in for the space to use it when needed. There are plenty examples on the wiki (linked above) of it successfully working. Is this something that could gain some traction here in RI?

I'm going to opt to sleep in (who am I kidding... baby boy will be up long before 6:30). Sean got us iPhones so long ago that we were even part of Steve's mea culpa to the early adopters! (I got iWork out of it.)
If you go, take photos though. Should be a blast.
Web Worker Daily is the latest to hop on the bandwagon. :) Some great press lately, guys!

Two of us from BatchBlue, myself and Michelle, are heading down Friday. Last year was my first, so I'm hardly a veteran. But the first thing I'll say is REGISTER FRIDAY. If you wait until Saturday morning, plan to miss some panels.
Oh, and yes, there is more free booze than you'll know what to do with.
Even if you're not doing it, Brian, I think a session on tagging would be great for a conference like this. It can be completely foreign to the NewBs.... but very powerful.
If there are any other tagging experts out there... please consider participating!
So, I'm starting to put my presentation together and I'd love to see this speaker list filled up a bit more. An event like this is a great way to polish your presentation chops (or actually see if you do indeed have some presentation chops). I'm planning to take full advantage.
Who else is in? I see a few familiar names on the Presentations page. There's room for a few more, and I'd love to see some of the smart folks I've met over the past few months at Geeks and other Nexus events take part.
After attending this morning, and seeing the title of this thread, I knew exactly what you were talking about.
And man, what a great chat we all had this morning. I had no idea there would be this much interest. In fact, at times it has overwhelmed me. I'm on the list of folks looking for something on a part time basis. One of the things I adore about my job is that I CAN work from home. And I want to take advantage of that. But sometimes, there are days that you simply need to get out of the house to meet a deadline. Or meet a client. Or bounce ideas of some new folks.
That, and... I don't have gynormous office equipment in my house, so access to that type of stuff would be nice, too!
I'm very new to working in Rhode Island (commuted my life away heading to Boston for seven years). Walking in today was another in a long string of refreshing moments for me working in this city.
