Full Story: URI has big role in state’s economic renewal Source: Providence Journal, March 10th, 2010 Author: David DooleyThroughout the presidential- search process and during my time in Rhode Island so far, one thing has been repeatedly emphasized: The University of Rhode Island must take on an expanded and central role in the renewal of the Rhode Island economy. This new responsibility for URI is characterized as urgent and critical. I fully agree. In Rhode Island “recovery” will not be sufficient. We must renew, rebuild — in essence, re-create — an economy that is vibrant and sustainable in the 21st Century. This is certainly an ambitious goal. But such ambition is essential if we are to create and sustain the jobs required to ensure a high quality of life for Rhode Islanders.
For those technology entrepreneurs who can't/don't/won't drive into Providence, we're hosting a South County Edition of RI Nexus Open Coffee, an informal get-together where you can talk shop, swap resources and connections, and get caffeinated. This seems like a great event that John Maeda puts on. Maybe a little early in the AM but nonetheless a great opportunity. Like Michelle said, hopefully the RI Nexus bloggers who go will keep us up to date on the topics discussed during the jog. The next two upcoming runs are going to be on July 8 and July 15.
