We've seen a number of clients who had offshored call centres and similar services reverse course and base those services with a stateside outsourcer.

The liability/accountability issues of using offshore suppliers is as big a driver as are the cultural/language differences  The cost differences have really shrunk as technology has enabled the 'work anywhere' culture.  Many larger organizations, such as Southwest Airlines, populate their call centres with home and mobile-based representatives.

Besides, it's a great time to create a job here at home:)

Why thank you, Jack.  It's interesting how it all is coming around back to VSB's driving the economy, or at least getting the credit they deserve. The RI economy, in particular, has always been driven by entrepreneurs and Mom and Pop shops.

Ned Grace (Capital Grille) and his first restaurant come to mind.... Too bad he found it necessary to move to FL to escape the draconian tax system here....

Let's hope that our lawmakers, many of whom are the children of VSB owners, get it.  We're in such a unique position due to our size, and this is such a great place...we can really rule, particularly in tech, if we can get it together....

I've hd issues w/Cox before switching to Verizon. We're running 20/5 w/static and paying a tad less than w/Cox.

OTOH- as Wayne points out, Towerstream, if you can afford the $500+ is ultra reliable, incredibly responsive, and can quickly provide you w/addl statics, and depending on your plan , at no charge.  We have them in place for a couple of clients.

For our needs, VZ FioS more than fits the bill, and the price is right -about $140/mo including taxes and bs charges....

A good presentation, to be sure.  Y'know....I lived in ME for four years....a large state with its own personality, but it didn't even come close to little RI.  Maybe I just like compact things, but it feels like one can't stroll more than a few miles without stumbling over something uniquely RI....

For those small businesses that have incorporated, but are not at the point where they are making any profits, this is excellent news.  I'm guessing that the regressive $500 a year corporate income tax will also pass into history.

The passing of the franchise tax was one of the least intelligent acts of a general assembly that was already noted nationally for its less-than-business-friendly attitude...

If I could butt in here and suggest that Google's Mobile Device support is limited and, depending on purpose, 200 can be a large number if one is looking for a truly collaborative environment, although they'll get into the mid-market as well.  We're pretty familiar with GA, as we're one of their original resellers and generally only recommend it at the entrepreneurial and microbiz (<20) level.

There are other excellent, and more scaleable solutions out there, particularly for email and security, which is and should be a major concern when leveraging the cloud...and, when priced per user, are comparably priced.

and, of course, there's RI's distinct "character".  Between the progressive-types, indendent-minded folks, and just plain crazy folk, there's about 25% of the driving population right there.  I can envision a lot of those types taking up with something like an electric car, if it's marketed right....
