Learn how to use this tool to cut or etch wood, plastics, papers or textiles! From 7pm to 10pm we will cover the basics of using the laser cutter safely, techniques for working with different materials, and the software tools for preparing work for the cutter. This is a hands-on workshop; bring a project if you like!
We have an Epilog 35 watt laser cutter. The work area is 24" x 12", and it can hold items up to 8" tall. We also have a cylindrical attachment that allows you to etch cylinders such as glassware. The laser can cut: Wood, plastic, acrylic, delrin, cloth, leather, matte board, melamine, paper, mylar, pressboard, rubber, wood veneer, fiberglass, cork, corian. The laser can etch: Glass, coated metals, ceramic, marble, anodized aluminum, stainless steel, painted metals, tiles, wood, plastic, acrylic, delrin, cloth, leather, matte board, melamine, paper, mylar, pressboard, rubber, wood veneer, fiberglass, cork, corian.
Cost: $65

Electronics for Artists 101: Have you ever wanted to learned some basic electronics to add to your art? Do you want blinky things? Monster switches? Retro red digital numbers? This is the first of a series of classes designed to teach the basics of electronics to those interested mostly in the practical with just a little bit of the theoretical. EA101 will introduce students to basic electronic components, how to design and prototype simple circuits, and where to go from there. Specifically, this class will teach students how to work with LEDs, 555 timer chips, seven segment displays, counters, digital logic, and simple switches. We'll discuss the basics of binary, decimal and binary coded decimals (BCD). We'll actually build circuits on breadboards. Included in the material costs are all the components that students will use in the class, so they will be able to continue their work at home. Everything we do in the class you'll be able to take with you. All necessary tools will be provided. However, students are encouraged to bring dikes, wire strippers, or laptops if they have them.

Hey Ed,
Great idea! We'll start putting something together.
Andrew,
I completely agree. I was at the Warped Tour this past summer, which had a large amount of bands playing at different times + locations throughout the day. My friend downloaded an app for her iPhone that was made specifically for scheduling out when and where the bands you wanted to see were going to play. It made planning out our day much easier.
My favorite app that I use on my android phone would have to be Locale. It uses the phone's gps to change phone settings based on your location. I love not having to worry about turning my volume down while at work or turning it back up once I leave.
What is everyone else's favorite mobile apps?
Hi Ed,
Both links worked for me. I'm not sure what's keeping you from accessing them. I hope you can get it figured out!

Brian Jepson posted his video interview with Richard Gonci and Jon Kletzien over on the Providence Geeks blog.
It should be all set now. Thanks again for pointing it out, Ed!
